Tourists heading to Spain this summer risk a massive £1,700 fine if caught using e-cigarettes on popular coastlines. This aggressive enforcement follows a law change across the Balearic Islands and Barcelona, reflecting a broader crackdown on vaping across major European holiday hotspots.

All 28 beaches in the Balearic Islands have been officially designated as no-smoking areas, a restriction that explicitly includes vaping. Barcelona has implemented identical beach bans. According to Markus Lindblad from vape retailer Haypp, anyone breaking these rules faces penalties reaching €2,000 (£1,702).

Beyond vaping, tourists in Spain must also navigate other strict local laws. Notably, photographing or filming police officers is a criminal offense that can result in immediate arrest and the confiscation of mobile devices.

Travelers visiting other parts of Europe must also adapt to a patchwork of tightening e-cigarette regulations.

As European nations increasingly align vaping regulations with traditional tobacco laws, travelers are strongly advised to check local restrictions before packing their devices to avoid hefty fines and legal trouble.
