The Turin City Council has approved an outdoor smoking and vaping ban, following similar municipal regulations enacted in Milan and Modena. Under the new rule, individuals cannot smoke or vape in public outdoor spaces within five meters of another person without their explicit permission.
The restriction applies to public transport stops, open-air dining venues, public parks, gardens, and demonstrations. Offenders face a fine of €100. The regulation covers all inhalable products, including traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and pipes.
While Italy lacks a unified national law governing outdoor smoking, individual municipalities are expanding local restrictions. Milan enacted a stricter 10-meter outdoor restriction in 2021 for parks, stadiums, and cemeteries, setting a precedent that other Italian cities now follow.
