The Bolzano City Council has approved a proposal by the Team K political group to implement a general smoking ban at the Bolzano Lido. The measure aims to reduce public exposure to secondhand smoke and promote healthier lifestyles at the popular public pool.
Previously, the Bolzano Lido was not classified as a sports facility, meaning it was exempt from general smoking restrictions. This regulatory gap exposed visitors to secondhand smoke, particularly during peak summer days when attendance is high.
Team K Councilor Matthias Cologna emphasized the necessity of the ban: “It is important that the public is protected from the risks of secondhand smoke, especially in an environment with many children and minors.”
The new regulation amends the outdoor pool policy to prohibit smoking alongside the use of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products. The city administration will work with the Lido management to enforce the ban and establish designated smoking zones away from the main pool and lawn areas.
