Qatari customs authorities have intensified enforcement of the nation’s absolute ban on electronic smoking devices, warning travelers heading to Doha to clear their luggage of all vapes. Under strict local laws, any tobacco alternatives detected at border checkpoints will be immediately confiscated, potentially triggering severe legal prosecution.
The ban, codified under Article 7 of Law No. 10 of 2016, makes importing, selling, distributing, or promoting e-cigarettes entirely illegal. According to authorities, prohibited items include:
- Vapes and E-Cigarettes: All brands, shapes, and sizes.
- Electronic Shishas: Both portable and stationary e-shisha gadgets.
- Smokeless Tobacco: Chewing tobacco and related variants.
- Smoking Lookalikes: Any device designed to mimic traditional smoking.
Attempting to bypass these regulations carries extreme consequences. Violators face massive legal penalties, including potential imprisonment and fines reaching up to 100,000 QAR (approximately $27,500 USD). Travelers are strongly advised to double-check their carry-ons and pockets to avoid severe legal headaches before landing in Qatar.
