The Lithuanian parliament, Seimas, has officially banned the sale of flavored e-cigarettes and e-liquid cartridges starting July 1. This decisive legislative move specifically targets the country’s surging youth vaping epidemic, leaving tobacco as the only permissible flavor on the market.
The newly adopted amendments to the Law on Control of Tobacco passed with an overwhelming majority. Currently, Lithuania already bans e-cigarettes containing vitamins, caffeine, taurine, or other stimulants marketed as health-enhancing.
According to Gražina Belian of the Department for Drug, Tobacco and Alcohol Control, Lithuania ranks second in Europe—behind only Monaco—for e-cigarette use among 15-to-16-year-olds. Recent data reveals that 31% of local schoolchildren have vaped within the last month, prompting lawmakers to implement this strict flavor ban to protect minors.
