Austria’s Federal Council approved an amendment to the Tobacco and Non-Smoker Protection Act on July 16, 2026, targeting both youth vaping and environmental litter. Under the new rules, disposable e-cigarettes—including nicotine-free versions—will be banned from the market by the end of the year.
The amendment also targets alternative nicotine and stimulant products. Nicotine pouches, nicotine toothpicks, and nicotine-free products containing stimulants like caffeine or guarana will now face the same regulatory restrictions as traditional tobacco products.
Additionally, the government is cracking down on environmental pollution in recreational areas. According to local reports, anyone caught throwing cigarette butts on public playgrounds faces an immediate fine of up to €500, which escalates to €2,000 for repeat violations.
