Lithuania’s parliament, the Seimas, has voted to outlaw the sale of flavored e-cigarettes and e-liquid cartridges starting July 1. The new restriction leaves tobacco as the only legally permissible flavor on the market, aiming to curb the rising popularity of vaping in the country.
Lawmakers extended the ban to non-nicotine e-liquids to prevent vapers from using nicotine shots and flavorless short fills to mix their own flavored products. Lithuania already prohibits e-cigarettes containing vitamins, caffeine, taurine, or other additives marketed as health-promoting or energizing.
With this vote, Lithuania joins Estonia, Finland, and Hungary as the latest European country to enforce vape flavor restrictions. Similar bans are scheduled to take effect in Denmark, the Netherlands, and Ukraine. Currently, about 28 percent of Lithuania’s 3 million residents smoke traditional cigarettes, representing one of the highest smoking rates in the European Union.
